Abstract. The work is devoted to determining the friction coefficients of samples of poly phenyl sulfide and a composite based on it with polyester additives during dry friction, lubrication with water and oil. The tests were performed according to the scheme: "the plane (sample of polymer, composite) is the end face of the annular surface of the counter–plate of the steel sleeve" with constant loading force and sliding speed. The end face of the steel sleeve was treated with sandpaper to give different surface roughness. It is established that the minimum coefficients of friction were obtained for composite samples with a surface roughness of 0.8 and 0.02 microns on a steel counter sample. When lubricated with oil, the friction coefficients of the composite sample were lower only with a surface roughness of 3.2 and 1.6 microns, and with a roughness of 0.8 and 0.02, the friction coefficients had the same values as the original polymer samples.
